Monday Feb 17 2014 - Thursday 20 Feb 2014: Rocky Bay, Waiheke Island then Auckland

DEC 2013: NEWS UPDATE FROM LOCAL COMMITTEE (alias The Reunionists)

Accommodation on Waiheke Island: see also Rocky Bay Cruising Club
Two houses have been booked at Rocky Bay on Waiheke. They are quite close together (walking distance) and are of the self-catering style. They have been booked complete with linen, so only beach towels will be required. Look at the website for Bookabach.co.nz/waiheke/rocky bay. ID numbers for these two houses are #1314 and #5848

Planned Activities:
Arthur and Warren will bring cars to the island (seating 12 between them).  If that is not enough we will hire another local vehicle for transport around the island. Murray and Jim will bring their yachts, Arthur will bring his runabout, for planned boating to one of the inner islands. Both houses are large enough to cater for joint meals & social gatherings.  Klaus and Kirsten plan to be on Waiheke at the same time with 14 guests of their own, and hope to link up on one of the evenings (possibly Tuesday).

Grand Finale Thursday:
We've been invited back to the old Chemicals and Materials Department that spawned us on Thursday: for afternoon tea and a department tour between 3 and 5pm. Shopping in Auckland is available for the wives/girlfriends/partners while this is happening. This will be followed by a social drinks gathering, followed by a dinner together at a handy restaurant.

Accommodation in Auckland:
Jim & Jennifer and Murray & Vicki have kindly offered a bed before and after the reunion. Please contact them directly to arrange. Beds will obviously be required in Auckland on the Thursday night.

Sunday: There will be some people travelling to Waiheke on Sunday. Definitely Arthur and Sandy, Jim and Jennifer, and probably Warren & Jill.

Monday: Travel to Waiheke. Ferries available from town (use Fullers), or from Half Moon Bay (Sealink). We have transport arranged to collect any of you coming on the Fullers ferry which goes into Matiatia, or the Sealink which goes into Ostend. Naturally both Jim and Murray will offer an “assisted passage scheme” if you would like to sail over to Waiheke Island. Individual engagement contracts with conditions must be sought directly from the skippers. Will advise of cellphone numbers nearer the time to allow collection arrangements.

Afternoon kept free for casual reunion. Walks, kayaks available.
BBQ dinner hosted by the “Thomas House”

Tuesday: The outings are planned on the yachts provided by Jim and Murray and Arhtur’s run-about. Both of the below can be accessed from the water.

Sculpture Trail at Connells Bay. 2-hour guided tour of a fabulous sculpture park.
Lunch at Man-of-War Bay Winery with Tasting & shared platters for sustenance.
Return to Rocky Bay by sailing, motoring or other.
Dinner at local Mudbrick Winery & Restaurant with drinks first.

Wednesday: Loose proposal to split up into a range of activities as follows.

Options for the morning are:
Golf. Can hire VIP Clubs, Duffer Clubs, Trundlers, Electric Carts. Nice 9 hole course.
Tennis. Four nice astro-turf courts available. Arthur has offered to organize fun tournament if enough interested.
We can organize some rackets for those interested but don’t want to bring from overseas.
Garden Tours. Jill has offered to organize some visits for those interested
Stoney Batter Tunnels Tour. Self-guided tour of WW2 gun emplacements. Only torches required.

All of the above require a booking. We need some indication of preferences to make the arrangements.
Please either choose one or give us some guidance of your preferences.
